Summary: Just what I was looking for 2009-01-06
Comment: We purchased this extrernal hard drive to back up our PC and store our photos and videos. What can I say? It is exactly what we wanted/needed and expected. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and copied my files over - it was that easy. If you need space, you can't beat the size of this drive for the price. We use Western Digital products at work as well and have not been disappointed yet. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for extra storage space for their PC.

Comment: I was using 500gb external hard drive, but was running out of space.
I have been reseraching many different 1tb external hard drive and this became my final choice.
No noise, heat, and very stable.
Simply re-format FAT32 into NTFS (5 sec)!

Comment: I received this product quickly and in great condition. Works very well so far and was ready to use right out of the box. Very satisfied. The transfer rate is a little slow, but then again I am transferring large files. Still - I would buy this product again and I just might do that soon.

Summary: DO NOT BUY...DONT TAKE THE CHANCE!! 2008-12-30
Comment: I lost all my pictures and iTune music. After I backed up my computer, I noticed that all my music and pictures (Over 5,000 pictures) were GONE!! I couldn't find them on the new external hard drive, and they were no longer visible on my computer. They were gone..lost. I had to buy a program ($100) to restore lost/deleted items. I wouldn't take the chance of setting this external hard drive up to your computer (to back it up), and then having it move or lose your important. DO NOT BUY!!

Summary: 2nd bootup was last connection 2008-12-29
Comment: Boot one the get to know you boot and format to NTFS. Boot two was back up all my photos. Third boot, now the PC won't recogize the drive. No PC problem here, just a bad WD external drive. One hour of testing, two PCs, two cables, searching the WD website, a phone call to India, more testing, reading my address to India three times - you get the idea. I'm very disappointed. Now they tell me that eventhough the warranty is well into 2011 and the drive is about 35 days old I need to pay for shipping! Sheesh!
