I bought this after I had two IBM 75GXP drives start showing errors. It is significantly quieter than those drives, measures about the same speed and from my research is more reliable (although my research also uncovered the fact that old floppy disks may be more reliable than the IBM drives). I had no problem installing this in my computer and installing Win 2K on it. The drive comes with a few screws, and an ultra dma cable (use this for best performance). If you are not using Win 2K or Win XP you may have to monkey around with ultra dma modes.
This was a good buy.

Western Digital is a pretty popular company and for a good reason. I have a this drive but only 20 gigs which i have had for about 2 years and have never had a problem. I tend to beat up on my drives constantly moving, adding, deleting, reformating constantly. But it has always held up.
For everyone out there looking for a new hard drive this is a good choice, although i also have a maxtor drive and think that no one makes a more dependable amd reliable drive than maxtor this drive is a nice and little cheaper option.
ONE QUICK TIP.........No matter what drive you buy your computer probably has a 5400rpm drive (this is the speed that the drive spins) (revolutions per mintue) spend the extra 10 or 20 bucks and get a 7200rpm you will notice a huge increase in performace from your system anytime you access your hard drive (moving large files, playing games, etc.) I have seen some benchmarks where a 7200 gave a 15% increase in system performance than a 5400rpm !!

I just got this drive in 60GB. I had some problems with Maxtor and Windows XP -- so I jumped ship and bought the Western Digital becuase it had the "Designed for Windows XP" label. All I did was plugged it in and booted with the Windows XP CD and I was up and running in no time! So this drive is great for people who are novices at hard drive installs(and are using XP)!! I think it's a little noisy-- and a bit more expensive than others(you pay for the 7200RPM)- but I reccomend it to those of you who want to avoid the headaches!
