Summary: The notes on the pictures are wrong! 2010-03-10
Comment: Someone posted pictures with notes complaining the drive is not in a "solid aluminum enclosure", as they claim Iomega states. I went to the web site and it states the drive is in a steel enclosure. It doesn't say "Solid Steel", just steel. I would expect the inside to be plastic. Solid metal doesn't really do a good job of absorbing impact. If this thing was solid aluminum, the drive would not handle a drop at all. And Steel, unlike aluminum will stick to a magnet.

Summary: Quiet, light and beautiful exterior! 2010-03-09
Comment: This hard drive is so conveniently light, and comes in a sleek red that keep my friends and family in envy. Every time i have used it, it has been super quiet and does not heat up. My friend dropped it while it was in use, and it suffered no adverse effects and the backup did not falter.

Summary: Great compact unit 2010-03-03
Comment: Worked great. First time I had a backup unit do what it was supposed to. No problems with mine. Nice and compact and I also got the case logic case which helps protect it.

Summary: Iomega eGo encypt USB portable external hard drive. 2010-02-28
Comment: I bought one of these for work, mainly because of the encryption.
Easy to use but within a week (i.e. about 3rd time I tried to backup my laptop to it) it gave a read / write error from the task-tray area and refused to respond. In the end I was forced to just pull the cable: wiped everything and couldn't get it to respond on any computer. Sent it back.
I've had a Toshiba for 2 years and it has been bullet-proof (and smaller). Just a pity it wasn't encrypted or I'd stick with Toshiba.
I had an Iomega Zip drive many years ago and that (while a great bit of kit) was prone to being tempermental. Looks like nothing much has changed.
If you're using this for backup I'd seriously consider other options first.
