i've been using glyph drives for about 10 years. this is probably the 15th firewire glyph drive i've purchased.

i'm an engineer and producer in the music industry and glyph has become (for the most part) an industry standard. we use these drives for our digital recording systems. i have yet to run into any major problems with these drive. they're fast, durable and reliable. and i do all my backups on glyph drives. i've had a lacie and ezquest drive fail on me while the glyph's have been solid.

this is the one to get for a portable, professional hard drive.

I read the other reviews and decided to spend a little more for this product. No problems whatsoever. My Mac recognized it right away. It is the main audio drive where all my Pro Tools files are saved. It is a little louder than I thought it would be (louder than my LaCie 1TB main backup drive), but that hasn't posed any problems yet. Will update this review if need be. If you don't hear from me, all is well.

I got this Glyph external hard drive to run my multitrack ProTools 9.0 sessions. Prior to buying the Glyph, I was just using a Dell Laptop and its 7200rpm internal drive which started crapping out on my larger PT sessions, especially after I started running a lot of guitar amp, bass amp, and drum set plug-ins. The Glyph dramatically raised my ProTools performance ceiling--for only $150. I highly recommend it for this kind of solution--that's pretty much what it's designed for. I am using the Glyph's Firewire interface right now, but plan to try it through the Dell's eSATA port, which should provide even faster data transfer rates. I find the noise of the drive to be negligible in my studio; I can hear it whir, but it's not bleeding into my recording mics at all. The case is trim looking and sturdy, with power switch on front and a non-wall wart AC plug. For the price, this is a smart addition to any computer-based home studio. If I needed more externals, I'd buy more of these, but,...Read more
