96GB FileMate SolidGO ExpressCard 34 Ultra SSD (w/mini USB port)

Amazing! If you want your MacBook Pro 17" performance to scream, get this card and then make it your boot-drive with applications. I have never added an upgrade of any type that changed the performance of one of my computers so dramatically. Start-up to 100% functionality with network access takes 42 seconds, applications like mail, calendar, address book open in a little under 2 seconds, normally sluggish apps like iWork and iTunes take just 3.2 seconds to open, iPhoto with a 6,811 photo library in 8.1 seconds, even Photoshop opens in 9 seconds. My 2009 17" Unibody is now more responsive than a top-of-the-line MacPro desktop with standard HD. I tried the 48 GB version of this card first and was so impressed with the speed gains I returned the 48 GB and went to the larger capacity so I could fit 100% of my applications and have a little left over.

I agree completely with "foreignthinker's" review. My Macbook Pro 17 is an older 2007 model (identifier 3,1) and following the same format procedure it works as a boot drive just fine. Speed increase (my internal drive is a 5400 rpm model) is just incredible.

I put this in my express slot on a unibody 17" macbook pro and it's like getting a new laptop. It's much faster and I freed up space on my regular drive which I now only use for media files. As SSD drive prices come down I'd consider replacing my main drive with an SSD. And I get it from M-Factor storage again. Their customer service was outstanding. Do I sound happy with my purchase? I am.
